Troy University & CGI Joint-Use Troy, Alabama
This new joint-use venture is a major renovation of a commercial shopping center. Troy University collaborated with the City of Troy, AL, and CGI (a large multi-national computing services provider) to produce this facility. It includes an IT Center for the University, an office and data center for CGI and a shared training facility. This project was designed utilizing BIM (Building Information Modeling). This process creates the entire facility in 3D space using 3D components. This creates a real simulation of all components to provide accurate counts of all building materials and prevent construction "collisions" of overlapping elements that can be missed in 2D CAD design. Construction is priced accurately with very few (if any) surprise change orders. A second variation was quickly produced using this 3D model, which gave the clients a quick and inexpensive design shift to show them a variation with significant cost savings.
